Private investors are at risk of accidentally disinheriting their heirs as a result of the 2010 estate tax hiatus, Chris Zander, partner and estate planning expert at Evercore Wealth Management, told Business Week.
That's because an unlimited tax exemption (compared with $3.5 million last year) means that provisions for an equal sum to pass to the next generation no longer have any impact. Individuals should review their wills and rework their estate plans as appropriate, he said.
"People haveto put Band-Aids on their wills," Zander said.
