Investors continue to weigh strong corporate earnings against disappointing economic data, said Judith McDonald Moses, partner and equity portfolio manager at Evercore Wealth Management in San Francisco, in an interview with WSJ.com.
"It's the tug of war between economic data showing a soft patch with a little bit of a slowdown with retail sales, but on the back of a very strong report from Intel last night," said Moses. "Even though we might see some softness in the economic data, companies are actually doing quite well."
She noted that investors are concerned about the reports to come from big banks, with questions abound on how legislative and regulatory change will affect returns and the banks' business models.
The Senate is expected this week to vote on financial overhaul and banks are expected to discuss its expected impact in their second-quarter releases, the article said.
