San Francisco-based Evercore Wealth Management partner and portfolio manager Judy Moses told the Wall Street Journal that investors are waiting for guidance on the U.S. economic outlook from the Federal Reserve, when it meets on Friday.

"Investors would like to hear more on possibly what policy tools the Fed will employ if there's a shock or a dramatic slowdown," said Moses. "Inflation expectations have gotten very low and I think that is likely on the lower end of the Fed's comfort zone and they would like to see inflationary expectations higher. One way to do that would be to do another round of quantitative easing."

The Dow Jones Industrial Average erased gains made earlier in the week, closing Thursday below 10000.
